Fort Worth, TX SMX Playoff 2SuperMotocross World Championship

Underrated Ride

Pierce Brown finishing 9-5 for seventh overall does not stand out on paper, but when you realize he went down in the first turn of both motos and was dead last, his 9-5 finishes are pretty damn impressive. On a track that riders said was hard to push and hard to pass, Brown sure did some damage coming through the field. Two claps for you, Pierce Brown.

Unbuckled boot and all, Pierce Brown was picking off riders right and left in both motos as he went from dead last to finish ninth in the first moto and dead last to fifth (!) in the second moto.

Ripping Roczen

Ken Roczen had a Pierce Brown-like charge in the second 450SMX moto. Roczen went down and had his Suzuki RM-Z450 on a Tuff Block on the inside of the first turn as the field took over. But the German native remounted and got to work. Roczen, who has acknowledged he has struggled in hot conditions recently, put his head down and twisted the throttle. When it was all said and done, Roczen took sixth at the checkered flag. His 6-6 finishes landed him sixth overall on the day.

SMX Standings Update

After his second consecutive 1-1 day, Haiden Deegan continues to lead the 250SMX standings entering into the finale. No matter who wins, if Deegan finishes third or better, he will be crowned 250SMX World Champion for the second straight season.

After his first career 450 overall win, Hunter Lawrence heads into the finale with the 450SMX points lead. The #96 machine has a one-point advantage over Chase Sexton and a nine-point advantage over his brother Jett. Eli Tomac sits fourth, down 21 points. You've probably heard we are up for a "winner takes all" finish to the 450SMX championship, and that is the case. Between the top three, whoever takes the win, takes the trophy and $1,000,000 prize money. Tomac is still mathematically alive for the title, but he would need to win the overall and have some bad luck for the top three riders ahead of him. This situation where the finale winner takes all is exactly what the SMX Playoffs was created for. This will be our sport's version of the NFL "Super Bowl" finish to the season.

Remember, the third and final round is in triple points.
