Breaking news before the night show at the San Diego SX, round two of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross Championship. After Jo Shimoda left the second 250SX Group A qualifying session early, favoring his left wrist, Honda HRC Progressive confirmed an injury to the 250SX West championship leader.
Our boots on the ground man Aaron Hansel spoke with Honda HRC personnel in the pits, who confirmed Shimoda leader suffered two broken fingers in his left (clutch) hand after...hitting a pit board! We are unsure of whose pit board he hit, but can confirm it was not Haiden Deegan's mechanic.
Honda did indicate to Hansel that Jo was going to attempt to race but his status is definitely in question for tonight's race.
Shimoda, who won last weekend's opening round 250SX main event, is leading the supercross championship for the first time in his career. We will provide updates as this story continues to develop.

250SX Heat Race #1
Jo Shimoda did in fact lineup for the first heat race of the night, with a hand guard on just the left side of his handlebars. Jett Reynolds and Jordon Smith exited the turn in the lead with Shimoda about third but he got shuffled back and was ninth early on. Shimoda made his way up to seventh and despite pressure from Hunter Yoder late, the #30 held on for seventh place, qualifying directly into the main event. No LCQ, which means he will have a longer break. Will be interesting to see how he manages the man event.

Shimoda did his sight lap and got ready for the main event. The gates dropped and Shimoda went a little wide in the first turn. He shuffled in and was inside the top ten. Shimoda eventually gutted out a seventh-place finish as Julien Beaumer took the main event win over Jordon Smith and Haiden Deegan.

After Beaumer's win, he leaves with the championship lead after finishing 2-1 in the first two rounds. Smith's 3-2 have him second and Shimoda's 1-7 has him third ahead of Deegan's 5-3.
